The HIC Pipe Pro was the first Hawaii/Tahiti Nui regional qualifier in over two years, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
This event provided local surfers an opportunity to earn crucial qualifying points for the 2022 WSL season, and launched both Barron Mamiya and Moana Jones Wong into wildcard slots in the 2022 Billabong Pro Pipeline.
Moana went on to be the Billabong Pro Pipeline Champion, earning the name “Queen of Pipeline”, while Barron has taken the opportunity to catapult himself into seventh place on the WSL Championship Tour (following the Margaret River Pro).
