Kalaeloa, Hawaii (Saturday, June 22, 2024) – Last Saturday, June 15th, International Surfing Day coincided with a strong southwest groundswell for the 15th Annual HIC Quiksilver All Military Surf Classic. The event took place at White Plains Beach, at the former Barbers Point Naval Air Station on Oahu’s southwestern shore. Presented by MWR Joint Base Hawaii, this yearly event brings together active duty and retired US Military and Department of Defense (DOD) personnel for a day of surf competition and camaraderie.
Irie Fitzgerald took First Place in the DOD Women’s Shortboard Division with smooth, critical turns on the larger set waves.

The consistent, windblown surf provided an ample platform for the 145 competitors to perform before a large crowd of family and friends. The event included fourteen divisions, including shortboard and longboard surfing for both Active Duty and DOD personnel.

The “Top Branch Award” goes to the military branch with the highest combined score, based on the final placings of those in each branch. For the second consecutive year the U.S. Coast Guard dominated the final rounds, taking home the coveted award.
