Redbull and Volcom. The crashing of surf on sand is a hallmark of our childhood, a catalyst for memories of long summers spent forgetting about school and setting sights on the breakers out the back. Throw a surfing competition onto that same beach and the audio changes. Suddenly there are microphones, machinery and a million people marching around with headsets on, rolling out miles of cable and erecting tents so that at the day’s end four surfers can compete for money, points and prestige.
