Haleiwa, Oahu/HAWAII – (Friday, January 31, 2020) – Day 3 of the Volcom Pipe Pro has been called ON today with the remaining three heats of Round 3 and all of Round 4 completing today in building six-to-eight-foot surf with faces exceeding ten-foot and winds remaining uncharacteristically light.

“Pipe is delivering for the third day in a row and we have solid 6-8ft. surf at both Pipe and Backdoor today,” said WSL Hawaii/Tahiti Nui Competition Director, Marty Thomas. “The new NW swell is forecast to build throughout the day and deliver great conditions as the top seeds hit the water.”

All eyes will be on barrel master and Pipe expert, Jack Robinson (AUS), who is newly minted onto the Championship Tour and hungry to defend his 2019 Volcom Pipe Pro title. He will compete in Round 4 Heat 13 and likely demonstrate some of the best tube-riding of the competition, thanks to his Margaret River upbringing and uncanny prowess for reading lineups.

Two-time World Champion and four-time Volcom Pipe Pro winner John John Florence (HAW) has pulled out of the competition to continue training for the start of the Championship Tour, which begins March 26, and rehabilitate his knee, which was injured last year at the Oi Rio Pro in Brazil. Florence will be replaced by Elliot Paerata-Ried (NZL) in Round 4 Heat 8, while Branden Defilippo (USA) will move into Paerata-Ried’s original spot in Round 4 Heat 16.

Other top-seeded Round 4 athletes that will be threats today include Brazil’s Wiggolly Dantas in Heat 7, Noa Deane (AUS) in Heat 8, Seth Moniz (HAW) in Heat 9, Billy Kemper (HAW) in Heat 11 and Cam Richards (USA) in Heat 14.

A newsfeed and images will be uploaded to the links above, please check back throughout the day for updates. Following the last heat of the day, an official press release will be distributed with standout moments, athlete quotes and more from the day’s best action.
