Honolulu Ocean Safety is holding its first lifeguard recruit tryouts of 2025 next weekend.
The recruitment event is for part-time, on-call, contract beach lifeguards.
Applicants can register from today, Saturday.

Tryouts will be held starting at 8 a.m., on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at the Ewa end of Ala Moana Beach Park
Applicants are not required to attend both days.
Before taking the physical exam, applicants must pre-register.
Registration will be held at the Ala Moana Beach Park Ocean Safety Training Center, located behind lifeguard tower 1B, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on January 24 and 25.
For those who pass the physical test, interviews will be held on February 4, 2025, at which applicants must be present to qualify.
Applicants must bring the following required documents on the day of the exam:
High school diploma, GED, or proof of high school completion
Proof of completion of an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Class
Proof of completion of a Basic First Aid Class
Proof of completion of an American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer Class or American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Class

The physical performance tests endurance, features three key events that must be completed within the specified time limits:
- 1,000 Yard Run and 1,000 Yard Swim: Must be completed in under 25 minutes
- Run-Swim-Run: 100 yards each way, to be finished in under 3 minutes
- 400 Yard Rescue Board Paddle: Must be completed in under 4 minutes
