Champions Crowned at the 2025 Aloha Freight Pipeline Bodyboarding Championships

Dave Hubbard and Ayaka Suzuki Crilley Dominate at Pipeline, Junior Titles Go to Michael Yannce and Aarya Tabalno

North Shore, O‘ahu – March 3, 2025 – The Aloha Freight Pipeline Bodyboarding Championships concluded with a thrilling weekend of world-class bodyboarding at the Banzai Pipeline, crowning champions in the Men’s Open Pro, Women’s Open Pro, Junior Men’s, and Junior Women’s divisions. With 6-8 ft waves and improving conditions, the finals saw epic battles and history-making performances from some of the best riders in the world.

Men’s Open Pro Final Results (March 1, 2025)

🥇 1st – Dave Hubbard (Kaua‘i)
🥈 2nd – Sammy Morretino (Kaua‘i)
🥉 3rd – Mack Crilley (Maui)
🏅 4th – Alfonso David Aguilar Contrera (Mexico)

The Men’s Open Pro final will be remembered as one of the most exciting in Pipeline bodyboarding history. Dave Hubbard played it smart, sticking to the lefts at Pipeline, and with less than two minutes remaining, he landed the highest score of the entire competition, a 9.43, to seal the win. Sammy Morretino stayed in contention with a high score of 7.77, while Mack Crilley took third in what was nearly an all-Hawai‘i final. Mexico’s Alfonso David Aguilar Contrera, competing at Pipeline for the first time, made an impressive debut, securing fourth place.

Women’s Open Pro Final Results (March 3, 2025)

🥇 1st – Ayaka Suzuki Crilley (Japan)
🥈 2nd – Terisa Miranda (Canary Islands)
🥉 3rd – Valentina Diaz London (Chile)

Ayaka Suzuki Crilley was in dominant form all day, winning every heat on her way to the final. She opened with a huge 8.67, landing a massive outside roll, and never looked back. Terisa Miranda (Canary Islands) pushed hard but couldn’t close the gap, while Valentina Diaz London (Chile) rounded out the podium.

Junior Men’s Final Results

🥇 1st – Michael Yannce (Peru)
🥈 2nd – Tayden Salinas (Hawai‘i)
🥉 3rd – Nash Brurkart (Hawai‘i)
🏅 4th – Koa Chambers (Hawai‘i)

The Junior Men’s final was an intense showdown between Michael Yannce (Peru) and Tayden Salinas (Hawai‘i), with Yannce clinching the victory on his final wave. Hawai‘i’s Nash Brurkart and Koa Chambers also put on solid performances in the highly competitive heat.

Junior Women’s Final Results

🥇 1st – Aarya Tabalno (Hawai‘i) – 13.17 Total Heat Score
🥈 2nd – Sarai Akiona (Japan)
🥉 3rd – Kaipoi Koa (Hawai‘i)
🏅 4th – Aika Ali (Hawai‘i)
🏅 5th – Hannah Saavedra (COUNTRY)
🏅 6th – Kanani Kuumomimakamae (Hawai‘i)

Defending 2023 Junior Women’s World Champion Aarya Tabalno put on a dominant performance, running away with the title and finishing with a 13.17 total heat score. Sarai Akiona (Japan) took second place, while Kaipoi Koa (Hawai‘i) claimed third in a stacked final.

A Championship to Remember

With incredible performances, dramatic finishes, and Pipeline at its best, the 2025 Aloha Freight Pipeline Bodyboarding Championships delivered some of the most exciting action in event history. The competition once again solidified Pipeline as the ultimate proving ground for the sport, showcasing the world’s best bodyboarders in powerful surf.

The Hawai‘i Pipeline Bodyboarding Championships, presented by Aloha Freight, ran from February 25 – March 10, 2025, selecting the best three days of surf within the event window. With a $23,000 prize purse, the event brought together the world’s top bodyboarders to compete in the sport’s most legendary lineup.

The Aloha Freight Presents Hawai‘i Pipeline Bodyboarding Championships delivered one of the most thrilling Men’s Open Division finals in the history of bodyboarding at Pipeline.

After an intense day of competition in world-class waves, Kaua‘i’s Dave Hubbard emerged victorious, securing first place in spectacular fashion.

The final heat saw Hubbard strategically sticking to the lefts at Pipeline, waiting patiently for the perfect wave.

With less than two minutes remaining, he unleashed the highest-scoring wave of the entire competition, earning an incredible 9.43 and cementing his victory.

Sammy Morretino, also from Kaua‘i, put on a strong performance throughout the final, securing second place with a high score of 7.77. Mack Crilley from Maui rounded out the podium in third place, making it nearly an all-Hawai‘i final. Alfonso David Aguilar Contrera, competing at Pipeline for the very first time, made an impressive debut, finishing in fourth place and proudly representing Mexico on the world stage.

With powerful surf 6-to-10-foot conditions, this year’s Men’s final will go down as one of the best in the history of bodyboarding at Pipeline.
