The Gold Mana went to Tahitian Kauli Vaast (22) and American Caroline Marks (22).
Indeed, the French Tahitian made history as did the Californian.
“I don’t really realize it, but I just made history,” said Vaast. “I can’t be prouder to represent Tahiti and France at home.”
“The best day of my life” proclaimed the current World Champ, Marks. “Your whole life goes into a moment like this,” Marks said with a gold medal hanging around her neck. “It’s beyond all my wildest dreams.”
All winners of the Paris Olympics surfing are first-time Olympic medalists: Caroline Marks: Gold, Brazilian Tatiana Weston-Web: Silver, and France’s Johanne Defay: Bronze.
Kauli Vaast: Gold, Australia’s Jack Robinson: Silver and Brazil’s Gabriel Medina: Bronze.
