We needed to get these last heats at round1 done and hopefully move into the 2nd round in rising WNW Sunday. The issue is ‘when’ the surf will be big enough. For sure by Noon Sunday. Overlapping rounds will begin in round 2 on Sunday…
With only 4 days given, we need to work with Mother Nature & City-County Permits. SNN.

BANZAI PIPELINE, Oahu, Hawaii/USA (Saturday, December 16, 2017) – The Billabong Pipe Masters in Memory of Andy Irons, the final stop on the 2017 World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT) and the third gem of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing (VTCS), has been called ON at 9:45 a.m HST in four-to-six foot (1.2 – 1.8 metre) waves at Pipe. The competition will start with the remaining three heats of Round 1, with Round 2 on standby.
“We are on for a 9:45 a.m. start today,” said Kieren Perrow, WSL Commissioner. “We’ve been on hold this morning waiting for the wind to clean up, and we are seeing cleaner conditions now. We will complete the remaining three heats of Round 1, and then reassess the call for Round 2.Hopefully, the winds cooperate and we can get into that next round.”
2012 Pipe Master Joel Parkinson (AUS) will be one to watch in Round 1 today as he comes up against 2017 CT rookies Connor O’Leary (AUS) and Leonardo Fioravanti (ITA).
Three-time WSL Champion Mick Fanning (AUS) will face 2017 CT Rookie Frederico Morais (PRT) and Italo Ferreira (BRA) in Round 1 Heat 12.
Sebastian Zietz (HAW) will go up against Adrian Buchan (AUS) and Ian Gouveia (BRA) in Round 1 Heat 10 of the Billabong Pipe Masters.
