SURFRIDER FOUNDATION’S HAWAII CHAPTERS HOST
11th ANNUAL INTERNATIONL SURFING DAY EVENTS
Honolulu, HI (6/16/2015): In celebration of International Surfing Day (ISD) on June 20th, Surfrider’s Hawaii Chapters will kick off summer by hosting beach cleanups and special events across the state. Surfing is Hawaii’s gift to the world, and ISD honors this “sport of kings.” Founded by the Surfrider Foundation and SURFING Magazine, ISD unites wave-riders worldwide and encourages ocean lovers to help protect our beaches and coasts by participating in these family-friendly events. This year, the Hawaii Chapters are also celebrating the passage of several Surfrider-sponsored state bills, including important legislation to reduce water pollution from cesspools, stormwater runoff and cigarette butts.
In addition to the cleanups, people can also join or renew their membership to the Surfrider Foundation by participating in a special ISD membership drive. Since its inception, International Surfing Day participants have removed more than 70 tons of trash from our coastlines, and thousands have joined or renewed their Surfrider memberships. This year, Surfrider is also hosting a My Special Place contest on Instagram. For more info on ISD and the Instagram contest, go to isd.Surfrider.org.
